Dr. Charlotte Pain
About My Research and Passion
Hi, I’m Charlotte Pain, a plant cell biologist and imaging specialist exploring the inner architecture of plant cells to tackle some of today’s most pressing challenges in agriculture and sustainability.
I’m currently a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Research Fellow at Oxford Brookes University. My work focuses on how the shape and dynamics of subcellular structures—especially the endoplasmic reticulum—contribute to plant cell function and productivity. I use advanced microscopy, from confocal to electron microscopy, along with image analysis tools I’ve helped develop, to understand and enhance how plant cells produce proteins and respond to environmental stress.
Whether it’s maximizing crop yields, designing bio-based production systems, or capturing rare cellular events through imaging, I’m driven by a belief in the power of plant biology to help shape a more sustainable future.
